Kindergeist was spawned out of Xanthe’s desire to share the wonderful world of horror with her niece, Zakia, who was in 7th grade at the time. Zakia got a taste of the genre through her obsession with The Vampire Diaries and school assigned books like Coraline and Small Spaces.
In October 2021 they launched their first season with the episode, “Is Horror Appropriate for Kids?“ They watched/read horror media and had a discussion of its themes through the lens of their differing perspectives. For the second season they invited a mix of grown ups, kids, and teens from the horror industry (Fangoria and Bloody Disgusting to name a few) to lend their knowledge on the genre and offer advice on their careers (SFX, podcasting, blogging, acting, and more.) The podcast continues to evolve under Zakia’s creative leadership. Our goal is to create a space for kids to explore horror through fun, inspiring and meaningful dialogue. We exist to help the younger generation embrace themselves for being different, break the stigma that horror isn’t for kids and to make a positive impact on the horror community at large.
