FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What do if I’m watching a horror movie, and I feel too scared?
Zakia: Remember it’s not real, it’s all from a script. I try to do something to get my mind off of it… like listen to music.

Zach: For me, I wouldn’t watch that horror. If you’re really scared of that horror movie, you should move on or watch a different horror. Or not watch it right now and call someone to come over and watch it together.

Xanthe: After I watch a too-scary-flick, I put on an episode of Yo Gabba Gabba. It truly solves any feelings of fear.

How do people come up with horror stories?
Zakia: I get my stories from imagination and my environment around me. Brainstorming.

Zach: I would try and find it from the internet, scary things that happened to someone or something.

Xanthe: It’s different for everyone, but is often a metaphor for the writer’s own fears. For example, werewolves can be a metaphor for the fears surrounding your body changing against your will AKA puberty.

Should I watch an “R” movie if I’m not 17?
Zakia: It depends on what the reviews say. Like if the gore is too intense, then do not watch it because you’ll be traumatized, literally.

Zach: No. It’s illegal… just joking.

Xanthe: If you’re dying to watch a film but it’s rated R, it can be helpful to watch with a trusted older family member or friend.

How can I convince my parents to let me watch horror?
Zakia: First, tell them that if they get nightmares it’s their own fault and I will be independent with all my problems after watching the movie.

Zach: Just keep on begging. Please, please, please, please, please, please.

Xanthe: Have an open and honest discussion about why you want to see it and how it interests you. The more they see you act mature, that will make them more comfortable. You can also negotiate!

Are horror movies bad for my health?
Zakia: It depends on the film and how mature you are for your age.

Zach: No. They’re good examples to get used to horrors. Let’s say something bad happened and it shows not to do.

Xanthe: I believe horror is healthy. There’s this negative reputation that horror is “bad” for you… but it teaches you how to be brave and conquer your fears. Of course, that’s a generic answer, so just use common sense and take care of yourself.
